Jenny was my lovely partner, an inspiration and a talented singer.
She was an incredible person – a lively, charismatic and successful entertainer who had performed up and down the country and in Europe. She was known and adored for her bubbly nature, her interest in people and her love of audiences. I had the honour of being her last musical partner.
Whilst mainly being a covers artist, she had a keen interest in the songwriters who passed through our studio. We wrote and recorded a few songs together too! This album of original songs is presented to raise awareness of brain tumour research and hopefully some much-needed money for the cause.
These songs were recorded in our studio, SongShed – and it’s noted predecessor, the Rockhopper – a studio in an Airstream caravan. I played the instruments and tried (without success) to tell Jenny how I thought she should do her vocals. Whilst it’s mainly “us,”there are some notable contributions from other musicians:
The songs themselves cover a range of subjects and styles. There’s a story of Jenny’s travels as a girl with her dad in his lorry. There’s a perspective on relationships and the folk in them – and then there’s the contributions from our songwriter friends.
We have a song written to celebrate 50 years of Milton Keynes! There’s a heart warming view on the nature of love and loss – a bit of a tear-jerker in the circumstances! There’s a couple I’ve chucked in! And then there’s an out and out rocker which includes the line “You’re keeping me alive.” Well, yes we are Jenny – you touched many souls in your time in this realm. The music and the love will last eternally.
